We will explore the term stewardship and reflect on what this means and how we can show it. During our final lessons we will discover the important role we play in as stewards in caring for God’s creation and listen to the letter that Pope Francis wrote called Laudato Si’, in which he shares the importance of caring for the world as it is our home. We will both reflect on and explore ways that we can undertake this caring role.
During our Prophecy and Promise we explore and understand that a prophet is someone chosen by God to deliver his messages and remind people of his promises. We explore the Magnificat, Mary’s prayer of praise, which shows her faith and trust when she learns she will be the mother of Jesus. We also look at the coloured Advent candles, which represent hope, peace, joy, and love as Christians prepare for Jesus’ coming. Finally, we learn about the Annunciation, when the angel Gabriel told Mary she would give birth to Jesus, showing God’s promise being fulfilled.
During our topic of Galilee to Jerusalem we learn about Jesus’ journey from Galilee to Jerusalem and the important ideas connected to it. We explore what water symbolises in faith—purity, new life, and God’s cleansing love. This links to Baptism, a sacrament where water is used to show a person becoming part of God’s family and being given a fresh start. We also learn about John the Baptist, who prepared people for Jesus by calling them to change their ways. His prophecy about someone greater coming true shows that Jesus is the promised Messiah. Finally, we look at sin—the choices that separate us from God—and reconciliation, which is the process of saying sorry, being forgiven, and rebuilding our relationship with God and others.
