The St Mary’s School Council representatives applied for their roles by completing an application form which included sharing their personal qualities, explaining how they would help our school and describing why they would make a good councillor. The successful applicants now represent pupils’ views and help make our school an even better place.
Through regular meetings with Miss Carter, we share ideas, discuss matters that are important to pupils and contribute to decisions about school life.
What does our School Council do?
- Listens to pupils’ views and gathers suggestions from classmates.
- Shares ideas at meetings and reports back to classes.
- Helps advertise school events, such as bingo.
- Supports fundraising for our school, including non-uniform days.
- Helps make decisions about supporting charities and our local community.
Our achievements so far this academic year include:
- Voting for the charity supported through our Harvest Festival.
- Supporting donations to Boston Food Bank to help people in our local community.
- Helping promote school events.
- Helping raise money for our school through non-uniform days.
Through our meetings and activities, we develop confidence, communication and decision-making skills. We learn to listen carefully, respect others’ opinions and work together, recognising that our ideas and actions can make a positive difference to our school and wider community.
