Home Learning - Saint Mary’s RC Primary Academy

Home learning is sent out on a Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday. It can be downloaded below each week.

Please ensure that your child continues to read regularly and encourage them to practise their times tables. By Year 6, your child should have rapid recall of all their times tables.

Weekly spellings will be sent home on Fridays and children will be tested on their knowledge on the following Friday. Please remember to practise spellings with your child at home using the ‘Look, Say, Write, Cover’ check method each day. Little and often will have a great impact.

Please encourage your child to complete and hand their homework in on time. Instilling this good behaviour will be of great benefit to them when they go to secondary school.

Reading at home:

Please ensure you listen to your child read each night at home and sign their reading record. Reading to an adult is important, as it gives children a chance to practise and to improve their reading skills.

How Reading is rewarded at St Mary’s:

Reading logs are checked regularly by our class teachers to ensure children are reading at home to an adult.
Each time a child reads at home, whether that be 5 minutes or half an hour, we ask that a signature is added to your child’s reading log.

Reading awards:

5 signatures = 1 merit
30 signatures = A reading bookmark
60 signatures = A reading pencil
90 signatures = A book from Mrs Gleed-Thornley’s shop

Your support with reading at home is essential and only by working together can we ensure your child achieves their full potential as a reader.
