Religious Education

Topic 1 – Creation and Covenant

In this topic we will be focusing on Abraham. We will be exploring his story, the blessings he experienced and why he is a model of prayer. We will know the stories of Abraham and Sarah, God’s covenant with Abraham and Abraham and Isaac in detail. The virtues of faith, hope and love are thread through this topic and how they helped Abraham to be a good neighbour.

Topic 2 – Judaism (Other Faiths)

In our third topic we will be exploring the big question ‘ How is the Torah looked after?’. We will be exploring why the Torah is significant to Jewish people, how it was created and what people do to look after it.

Topic 2 – Prophecy and Promise

In this topic we will be focusing on Elijah, John the Baptist and Jesus’ ancestors. We will be exploring what a prophet is and how Elijah and John are examples of this. We will also be identifying how Christians prepare for the coming of Christ during Advent by exploring different symbols and art work that represents this.

Topic 3 – Galilee to Jerusalem

In this topic, pupils explore Christian beliefs about who Jesus is and why he is called the Christ (the Messiah). They study key Scripture passages to understand how Jesus’ words and actions revealed God’s Kingdom, especially through caring for those who were poor, sick, or excluded by society.

Children learn how Catholics express their belief in Jesus as the Messiah through the Nicene Creed, why it is said in Church today, and how these beliefs are lived out through the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Sick. They also explore how Jesus’ example inspires Christians to serve others, including learning about the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) and how faith, hope and love guide their actions.

Throughout the topic, pupils are encouraged to reflect on Jesus’ question, “Who do you say I am?”, express their own views using evidence from Scripture, and consider how Christians today can follow Jesus’ example of love, service and compassion.
