Geography – Our Wonderful World
We begin our first Advent term with a geography based topic called ‘Our Wonderful World’. During this topic, the children will be learning about physical and human features of geography, maps, cardinal compass points, and positional and directional language. They will learn about the equator, hemispheres and continents and will be introduced to the countries, capital cities and settlements of the United Kingdom. The children will carry out simple fieldwork to find out about local physical and human features.
Science – Everyday Materials
In this topic, we will learn that materials are what objects are made from. We will compare a range of objects made from different materials, putting them into groups according to their similarities and differences. We will identify the properties of a range of materials, learning that materials can be described by their properties and that a property is a quality a material has that makes it suitable for a particular use.
