Monday: Think about where you see leaflets and what is their purpose?

Create a mind map to jot down your paraphrased research of how compost is made. Are there simple steps? What are the dos and don’t’s?

Tuesday: From your research – I would like you to create a poster explaining what materials are good for compost and what are bad. You may wish to create a table on your poster for this, or use images and symbols. It is up to you, just remember that the poster needs to capture the reader’s interests and look visually appealing and clear.

Wednesday: Today you are going to make your leaflet. This could be online using publisher or other programs, or it could be on paper. Either way, remember you want to catch the eye of the reader- so it needs to look impressive! Please take your time to carefully consider your writing and include the features you know that leaflets have. Some leaflet and poster pointers can be found in resources.

Thursday: Thursday

Today you are going to edit and check your writing. Once you have done this, you are going to create a key to self-assess and identify any of the features you have included.

Friday: Today I would like you to complete the reading comprehension attached.

Don’t forget to send me some examples of your work- I am happy to give feedback and would love to share some on our class Twitter @bsmyear5 and website gallery.

Learning Project - To be completed throughout the week

Here is an overview of tasks I’d like the Year 5 children to be completing at home over the next week.

I’d love to see some of your fantastic findings- you could either email me – year5@bostonstmarys.co.uk or tweet us @year5bsm / @bostonstmarys

Topic

Research the different soil types and create a fact sheet / poster /powerpoint presentation. Display your findings however you prefer – just make sure they are interesting and eye catching. Please see example fact sheet attached.

Art

On a walk or from your garden, collect any fallen leaves and look at the patterns on the leaves. Pick some of your favourite patterned leaves and create a collage of leaf rubbings. Instructions for leaf rubbing can be found attached – if you don’t have wax crayons then this should still work with pencils.

P.E

Please access one of the links below and complete the workout / dance. I’d love to see some of your fantastic moves!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btxws8qvYAA – Oti Mabuse

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8X1pvW3Spg – Joe Wicks

I know some dance schools or gyms are doing online dance/gym classes.

Science

What do plants need to grow? Create a poster explaining exactly what it is that plants need in order to grow. If you want to challenge yourself- why is it that plants need these things?

D&T

Design your own machine for planting crops. Think about how you are going to make sure the plant goes in the ground, receives sunlight, receives water and doesn’t get blown over. I look forward to seeing your fantastic creations!

R.E

This week we are going to research the feasts of Peter and Paul, as this is coming up on the 29th of June.

Create a mindmap/fact sheet to answer the following questions…

  1. Why did they celebrate Peter and Paul together?
  2. What did they do?
  3. How were they martyred?
  4. How is the day celebrated?
  5. What impact does this have on your life?

Here is a good website to get you started: https://theromanguy.com/italy-travel-blog/what-is-st-peter-and-pauls-day/

Always remember to use the internet safely and speak to an adult if you aren’t sure about something.
