SMC - St Mary's Council
We have recently formed a new school council where representatives from each class are involved in the way the school is run.
The School Council benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers, because it provides opportunities for us to communicate our feelings as well as influence decisions that are made within school.
Through our fortnightly meetings with Mr Smith we develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation. We also feedback to our class and ask them for their ideas and votes too.
The School Council this year have placed a focus upon the protection of our planet, focusing upon how we can improve our school community and inspire communities to do the same locally.
School Council have been preparing resources ahead of a campaign within school to improve recycling & sustainable use of resources, as well as encouraging businesses within the local community to adopt these measures and families at home.
The School Council have been working alongside staff in school to orchestrate a range of fundraising opportunities to enhance provision in school. Working alongside Miss Latty in EYFS, School Council have been devising a range of fundraising opportunities to help raise money for the adoption of Chicks in EYFS, for use within their learning in school.
School Council Development
Working alongside Mr Smith, elected representatives from Year 6 have been working hard to develop an independent student body. They have been guided by Mr Smith to develop independence within school council sessions, guiding the student body & leading sessions in their entirety under his supervision. This has helped members develop confidence, organisational skills and clear communication - as well as ensuring that the student body is able to clearly represent the wider school community.
