Right Respecting Schools Award

Learn Love and Respect

As part of our community the children in our care have the right to have an education and reach the highest level of education that they are capable of.  Therefore we wanted to involve them in our new computer wallpaper and celebrate with a few minutes of fame.  This may seem a little bizarre as you may be thinking how does this give them an education?  ICT is an integral part of our school learning environment, whenever pupils and staff logon to the computer a vision of our happy children appears.  This then stimulates the children and encourages them to give their best in return.  We took photographs of all the children dressed in bright clothing arranged in the shape of an 'M'. The result you can see is rather spectacular.

Reaching Out

As a school Boston St Mary's support lots of different causes from around the world we reach out to all walks of life.  We are proud to be involved with lots of different projects.

Cafod is a Catholic agency for overseas development to end poverty and injustice.  We continue to support Cafod with various appeals and awareness campaigns.  We have Cafod visitors come to school to update us on what they have achieved since they last visited.

Mission Together is the official Catholic Church's mission charity to support children overseas. During Advent we give out collection boxes for children to save some of their pocket money to help children in Zambia. Mission Together have a unique motto of children helping children.

Children in Need is a famous charity with Pudsy Bear as its mascot. The Charity funds projects working with children and young people aged eighteen and under living in the UK and Channel Islands.  There are a wide range of needs from illness, distress abuse or neglect to children living in poverty. Boston St Mary's held a very successful fund raising day raising in excess of Four Hundred Pounds which was a magnificent effort for such a small community.

These are just a few things that as a school we reach out to the wider world and help where we can..

School Council

St Mary's School Council are the voice of the school.  They hold regular meetings and have a committee to deal with the concerns from the rest of the school.  These meetings are sometimes noisy affairs as everyone wants to be heard. However the Chairman is able to restore order and ensure that problems are solved.  The Council Meetings are recorded by the Secretary and the Minutes are available to read on the G Drive at school, or in the attachments below. Feel free to have a read.

Below are Articles 12 and 13 which link nicely to the School Council and this is what the Council is all about.

Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA)

You can see more of our work in 'Our Community' we have our own council page.  Please have a look at the things we do.

 Child Friendly

At our school we have decided to display the 'Rights of the Child' in a child friendly version.  Our pupils are able to read for themselves each article and go some way to understanding its meaning.

Lunchtime Charter

We at St Mary's have produced our own lunchtime Charters which are displayed in the hall for everyone to see and be reminded of.  We produced two in order that everyone will be able to understand what is required to ensure we all enjoy our time together.

The picture version serves our younger children very well and the written one is more adult for our older pupils.
