Belonging

Our next topic is Baptism/Confirmation and our focus will be on belonging.

Our lives are marked by many different experiences of being welcomed into new situations and groups. We recognise the importance of welcome, of feeling comfortable with new situations and belonging to new groups. We belong to families, to work places and to social groupings.

  1. What experiences of belonging can you recall in the family, at work or in leisure time?
  2. Are these good experiences? Are there any difficulties?
  3. What difference does ‘belonging’ make in your life?

Other Faiths-Judaism

Over the next two weeks we will be exploring and finding out about Judaism. Our focus will be the stories of Abraham and Moses.

Throughout this topic we will be learning about Abraham and Moses. Abraham is the father of the Jewish nation. It was he who answered God’s call to leave his home in Mesopotamia and journey to the unknown land that God promised him. God promised to make his descendants a great nation. Abraham helped people understand that there is only one God. An important descendant of Abraham was Moses. He was a leader who helped the Jewish people escape from the slavery in Egypt and journey to their promised land. Through Moses God gave his people the Ten Commandments to live by.

Families

We will begin our journey with RE by focusing on our Domestic Church topic of families.

We will explore how the experience of ‘family’ in society today is varied, with many joys and sorrows. Whatever the experience, family still remains the first place for growth and development, the basic social unit.

  1. What does the word ‘family’ mean to you?
  2. What people do you associate with ‘family’?
  3. What joys and sorrows do you remember of family life?
