This week we are looking at shape.
We will begin our week by exploring 2d shapes. How many 2d shapes can you name? Do you know the properties of 2d shapes?
2d shapes are flat shapes, we will find out how many sides each shape has and how many corners it has.
Look around your house, can you see any of these shapes at home on objects?
It might be that you can see 2d shapes on the faces of a 3d shape at home.
We are looking at lines of symmetry today in Maths.
You can find if a shape has a Line of Symmetry by folding it. When the folded part sits perfectly on top (all edges matching), then the fold line is a Line of Symmetry.
Did you know that there are different types of lines of symmetry?
Today we will be sorting 2d shapes using venn diagrams. Do you know what a Venn diagram is?
Have a look at how these shapes have been sorted.
Today we are moving onto 3d shapes, how many 2d shapes can you name?
3d shapes are solid shapes, we will be exploring their properties.
Key vocabulary we will be using to explore and discuss the 3d shapes above will include: faces, edges and vertices. Have a look at the diagram below to help you.
We will be using Venn-diagrams today again to sort 3d shapes, think carefully about how we could sort them. What might our labels be?
How have these 3d shapes been sorted?
How many edges do the shapes in set A have?
How many edges do the shapes in set B have?
Can you name a shape that cannot be sorted in either circle?
