As a Catholic school we encourage our children to take ownership of Collective Worship. At St Mary's we have our own Liturgical team made up of children from Years 4, 5 and 6. These children prepare and lead readings, prayers and drama. They also have a say in the hymns sung and often control the PowerPoint presentations.
The children prepare resources and set up Collective Worship in the hall. This includes choosing and laying the correct liturgical cloth on the table, which is colour coded to match the current season within the Church, and displaying the crucifix, pebbles, candles and Bible with care.
Members of the Y6 Liturgical team regularly support staff with out Shining Lights celebration assembly each Friday morning, where the achievements both in and outside of school are shared and celebrated. Recently members of the Year 5 and 6 team have been organising the collection of feedback from pupils on Collective Worship.
The Liturgical team meet every week with the RE subject leader.
These are just some of the ways in which we develop our young children into future leaders.
